Inflatable mattresses are called air mattresses. They are usually manufactured using nylon, plastic, rubber, or textile-reinforced rubber. The air mattress can form a small roll when it is deflated and this way it can be carried anywhere with much ease. It would not require much space if you need to store it as well. These mattresses are best suited for camping trips. You can either inflate the air mattresses using your mouth (for smaller mattresses) or you can use mechanical or electrical air pumps to fill them with air with much less effort. Some of the models inflate automatically up to certain air pressure. You just need to open the valve.
The benefit of the air beds lies in the fact that they are waterproof. This makes them perfect choices for camping or road trips. Some models are raised above the floor. These mid-rise air mattresses give more extra comfort. Normally, airbags have a movable carrying case in which you can easily bring your air mattress anywhere.
These mattresses are essentially required for three main purposes i.e. they can be used as camping beds, guest beds, or as permanent beds in your home or RV. The types that are used for permanent use are different than those used while camping and for guests. The main problem that may arise with the air mattress is that leakage may start. For this, you need to have a patching kit. All you need to do is a patch- and- go as long as you can spot the leak. In general, air beds hardly require repairs.
Sometimes lightweight air beds have a layer of foam under the air chambers. These are generally used for camping and backpacking and are called sleeping pads. Vulcanized rubber is used to construct the airbeds that are used permanently in the household. They are covered in the canvas of polyurethane. A cloth shell is then made to cover the air chambers. They can be as huge as a king-size bed and look exactly like normal beds except they have a valve or a hose. The hose is where the air pump is attached when the mattress is filled with air.
Some of the mattresses are two-chambered. Each chamber has its own hose and outlet so the individual can decide the air pressure for their side. The firmness of the mattress can be brought up and down by just pushing a button on the remote control that controls the opening and closing of the outlet valve. Some mattresses do not require pillows with them as they come with a hump on the side of the mattress which can be used as a pillow.
Airbags are considered unsuitable for children less than 8 months of age. This is because the airbags are soft and so the child can suffocate if he/she becomes trapped within the folds of the air mattress. Apart from that, airbags do not pose much risk. They are very convenient when it comes to storage and transportation along with being very comfortable.
